Once the guest villa of King Norodom Sihanouk, today this walled garden estate serves as a tranquil 24-suite retreat with the ambience of a gracious home. Just a 15-minute drive from Siem Reap airport, Amansara provides an ideal base for exploring the Unesco-protected temples of Angkor, and discovering Khmer culture. Amansara combines the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’ with apsara, the "heavenly nymphs" of ancient Hindu texts. Built with twelve suites in 1962 by French architect Laurent Mondet, today Amansara presents 24 suites, half with private swimming pools. Similar in design, each suite enjoys an open-plan layout and a private courtyard. Across a manicured lawn from the suites and adjacent to the main 17-metre swimming pool is the circular Dining Room with its soaring ceiling and shaded terrace. Serving a menu of Khmer and Western cuisines, it includes a walk-in wine and cheese cellar and a casual lounging area. The Roof Terrace offers a seasonal venue for early or late evening drinks and private dinners. Taking advantage of the resort’s tranquil setting is the Aman Spa, which overlooks an ancient rain tree. There are four treatment rooms, each with an attached relaxation area overlooking a reflection pond set against a 43-metre sandstone relief. Other resort facilities include a 25-metre lap pool, a gym, a movement studio, a library and a gallery displaying local crafts and artwork available for purchase. A variety of temple tours and customised excursions are available as part of the Amansara guest experience. Complimentary house outings focusing on the temples surrounding Angkor Wat are conducted in the early mornings and late afternoons, utilising Amansara’s own fleet of remorks (moped-powered trishaws), each with its own Amansara driver and guide.

Set in Ise Shima National Park on Japan’s Kii Peninsula, Amanemu, meaning "peaceful joy", is perched on the rolling shores of Ago Bay, known as the Bay of Pearls – an expanse of blue, dotted with islets and home to drifting oyster rafts. Ancient pilgrimage routes wind through forests nearby, and Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines are within easy reach. Lying south of Tokyo on 341 acres, two hours by train from Nagoya or 25 minutes by private helicopter, Amanemu embraces a classic Japanese aesthetic to provide an exclusive sanctuary that feels at one with nature. The resort’s proximity to the UNESCO-protected pilgrimage routes of Kumano Kodo and the revered Shinto shrine of Ise Jingu, first erected by Emperor Temmu in the late 600s, have inspired much of its design and peaceful ambience. The benefits of onsen can also be enjoyed in each of Amanemu’s 24 suites and four two-bedroom villas. All feature a private plunge-bath supplied with water from the same natural hot springs as the Aman Spa. Identical in layout and design, Amanemu’s 99-square-metre suites present combined bedroom and living areas with woven textile shutters opening to embrace the outdoors. Expansive decks offer outdoor living areas and beautiful views. The four two-bedroom villas offer similar views and layouts to the suites, with additional living space. The Mori Villa overlooks a verdant private garden with peaceful greenery all around. Living areas and bedroom pavilions open onto expansive verandas offering daybeds and an alfresco dining area. The two Sora Villas overlook their own private gardens with partial sea views. The Nagi Villa, close to the shore, commands panoramic views of Ago Bay’s verdant islets and pearl rafts. Situated in a region renowned for its gourmet heritage, from outstanding seafood to the renowned Matsusaka beef, Amanemu presents two restaurants celebrating this local abundance. The area was once known as Miketsukuni (Land of Imperial provisions) when it served as the breadbasket of the ancient Imperial Court. Aside from exceptional facilities, including a private marina club, bar, library and boutique, Amanemu offers bespoke Aman Journeys, seeking out the cultural nuances and finest experiences of the region, and sharing these with its guests.

Ulusaba is Sir Richard Branson's private game reserve in South Africa. The name Ulusaba means "place of little fear", so named because the koppie, or hill, on which Rock Lodge sits provided the ancient Shangaan tribal warriors with the perfect lookout point. Ulusaba has 20 rooms and suites spread over two lodges: Rock Lodge, including the beautiful Cliff Lodge, and Safari Lodge. Ulusaba sits entirely within the Sabi Sand Reserve near Kruger National Park, surrounded by 13,500 hectares (about 33,000 acres) of open bush. Rock Lodge is perched on the top of a koppie with panoramic views over the bush below. There are eight rooms at Rock Lodge, including the Master Suite, Makwela Suites, Rock Cliff rooms and the two-bedroom Rock Suite, some of which have private plunge pools. Just a short walk from the main house is Cliff Lodge, a private two bedroom suite. Nearly 500 metres away is Safari Lodge which has ten rooms, including the Safari Rooms, Elephant Rooms, River Rooms, private Treehouse Suite and the Safari Suite. Built along the banks of a dry riverbed, Safari Lodge guests cross swing bridges between the exquisite tree house style rooms. For the ultimate experience, guests can share their time between both lodges. Anyone who's been on safari before knows that no two game drives are ever the same! There are two daily game drives at Ulusaba, one leaving early in the morning and one leaving late afternoon, each lasting around three hours. Times will vary depending on the season, but you should always keep your eyes peeled for the Big 5! You'll traverse over 13,500 hectares of private reserve with your dedicated Ranger and Tracker who will tailor your game drive just for you. At Ulusaba, dining is a very important part of your stay, and the chefs work hard from morning until night to provide the freshest and tastiest meals possible. All meals and drinks are included in your rates, and with at least six opportunities per day to eat, you won't go hungry!
