A Perfect Day in Cape Town

Hotel concierges are walking encyclopedias of local knowledge, invaluable personal insights and incredible connections. That’s why we go out of our way to build strong relationships with them all. We called one of Cape Town’s finest for this insider’s guide to a perfect day in the Mother City.
7:10am

Savor the start to your day with a soothing cappuccino and hearty helping of Brioche French Toast at Mint The Local Grill-a complimentary perk for booking your stay at the Taj Cape Town (1 Wale Street, Cape Town) through our agency. From there, the concierge will have your ride ready and waiting to take you on an adventure.

9:12am

Arrive at Boulders Beach (Kleintuin Rd, Simon's Town), home to pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, massive boulders and masses of African penguins. Sunbathe, swim, splash and snap photos with the torpedo-shaped birds for a beach day unlike any other.

12:45pm

Enjoy lunch at the V&A Food Market (34a Dock Rd, V&A Waterfront). For those who simply cannot settle on one cuisine to try, the V&A Food Market is heaven: stalls stocked with all kinds of delicious dishes line both floors of this repurposed Power Station on the scenic waterfront. Whatever you decide for lunch, you have to follow it up with a scoop from The Creamery-the hand-made, natural ice cream is unmatched in decadence.

2:07pm

After a satisfying lunch, it's time to explore. Strolling amongst the iconic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront will bestow you with a cornucopia of stores to peruse and seaside vibes to enjoy. Couple it with a trip to Greenmarket Square to guarantee finding the perfect souvenir. But, be prepared to bargain with the stall vendors-haggling is an everyday component of trade in the square.

4:45pm

Once you've had your fill of Cape Town shopping, head back to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront to indulge in the timeless tradition of afternoon tea. The Vista Bar and Lounge (Dock Rd, V&A Waterfront) makes for an opulent tea time: a lavish setting, a buffet of scrumptious morsels and an expansive selection of specialty teas is very nearly outshined by the magnificent views of Table Mountain towering in the distance.

6:30pm

Ascend over 3,500 feet aboard Table Mountain's Aerial Cableway (Tafelberg Rd, Gardens) as it rotates a full 360 degrees. As impressive as these views are, they're just the warm-up for what you'll witness atop Table Mountain-the two-mile-wide plateau sports sweeping views over both Cape Town and the coastline. There simply is no place more majestic to watch the sunset blanket the city.

7:40pm

After riding the Aerial Cableway back down Table Mountain, head to the ever-trendy neighborhood of Woodstock for a sumptuous dinner at The Pot Luck Club (Albert Rd, Woodstock)-the brainchild of world-renowned chef Luke Dale Roberts, one of South Africa's premier culinary talents. Enjoy a sampling of modern tapas atop the silo of the old biscuit mill, with views over the neighborhood infusing the ambiance with heightened grandeur.

10:23pm

After a sumptuous meal and a day well spent, return to Taj Cape Town for a good night's rest. If your eyelids don't feel particularly heavy just yet, then head up to the cozy comfort of the Twankey Bar for a complimentary local gin tasting-another SELECT perk for booking through our agency.
